Our Community: Micro Grove Project
Though remote and rugged, our island thrives on connection—between the land, the sea, its people, and the everyday practices that define our way of life. From the shores of Killiecrankie to the vibrant olive groves in private gardens, we celebrate a unique bond that stretches across Flinders Island.
The Micro Grove Project
Flinders Island isn’t just home to our commercial olive grove in the north—it’s also dotted with smaller, olive groves in private gardens throughout the island. These micro groves, mostly in the south, form a crucial part of our local ecosystem. Together, they produce olives that contribute to our Flinders Island Blend Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
One of the largest micro groves belongs to the Flinders Island District High School, where varieties like Manzanillo, Paragon, and Verdale have been planted.
These micro groves complement the northern organic grove by ripening earlier, which helps balance the grind of harvest and pressing schedule. The olives from these groves are picked by hand and pressed within hours at our Killiecrankie facility. The result is a mild, spicy, and fresh extra virgin olive oil that reflects the diversity of the island’s landscape.
The Flinders Island Blend
Our Flinders Island Blend Extra Virgin Olive Oil celebrates our dedication to quality and sustainability. Pressed from olives grown in private gardens and micro groves, it offers a distinct, mellow flavour—perfect for dipping with fresh bread, drizzling over pasta, or pairing with your catch of the day. Each bottle carries the spirit of Flinders Island and the people who make it possible.
We’re proud of our role at Flinders Island Olive Oil. The Way of Flinders Island is more than just a way of life—it’s a shared journey of resilience, connection, and respect for the land that sustains us.
